General Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

We are located in the tiny, peaceful hamlet of Lathière on the outskirts of St. Sulpice Laurière in the Haute Vienne department of the Limousin. The three maps below will give you a rough idea of our whereabouts, click on them to enlarge in a new browser window. (note you may have to 'allow pop-ups' for this site to view them)

Upon payment of your deposit you will be sent details and routes to our door.

Bed & Breakfast FAQs

Is smoking allowed within the main house?
For the comfort of ourselves and our other guests smoking is not allowed anywhere within the main house. Smoking is permitted in the gardens and sand buckets are available for your cigarette butts.

Are bedding and towels provided?
All bedding and towels are provided.

Are the rooms en-suite?
Our two guestrooms have vanity units fitted and although a shower is not available in your room you have guest only access to a luxury hydro-massage shower and wc. Note: As is typical in this region our waste water is handled by a fosse septique (septic tank) which is unable to deal with certain types of disposable waste. Sealed bins are provided for ladies feminine hygiene products and we ask that only the paper rolls provided are used with the wc.

Do you have disabled facilities?
Our guestrooms and shower room are located upstairs and the house itself is elevated and accessed via steps so unfortunately we would not easily be able to cater for a wheelchair bound guest for example. We aim to be as flexible as possible and you are more than welcome to contact us to discuss your requirements

My teenage son/daughter is coming with us and doesn't want to share our room.
How would a second room be charged to us?
You would have to pay the full price for the room as if it is occupied even by one person it prevents us from letting the room to other guests.

We have a small baby, will this cause any problems?
We have no facilities for infants so you would have to bring your own baby care equipment with you.

We would like to order the evening meal but do we have to pay 20 euros for our 9 year old?
No, not at all. We're happy to discuss suitable arrangements for our young guests meals with you.

Gite FAQs

Is smoking allowed in the gite?
For the comfort of future guests smoking is not allowed anywhere within the gite. Smoking is permitted in the gardens and sand buckets are available for your cigarette butts.

I've heard mention of these but what is a fosse septique?
As is typical in the region, our waste water is handled by a fosse septique otherwise known as a septic tank. It is a natural system whereby waste water and effluent is directed deep underground to a special soak-away where beneficial bacteria process the waste. The system is highly efficient however it is unable to deal with certain types of often termed 'disposables' and sealed bins are provided for ladies feminine hygiene products. We ask that only the paper rolls provided in the Gite are used with the WC. No bleach products should be used either with the WC or down the sinks at all! It's really not as grotty as it may first sound and special, environmentally friendly cleaning solutions are used.

Are bedding and towels provided?
All bedding is provided in the cost of the gite rental, towels are available and the gite has it's own washing machine.

Will I be hit with a 'surprise' electricity or gas bill at the end of my stay?
Absolutely not! When we came on holiday house hunting we stayed in a Gite and we're hit by a surprise electricity bill at the end of the stay which was actually higher than the gite rental! Electricity and bottled gas is included in the rental of the gite. As such we do ask that our guests try to avoid unnecessarily leaving lighting etc switched on when not in use. In the winter months firewood is available for a small charge.

What if I break something in the Gite?
We're only human and appreciate that accidents can and will happen from time to time. Because of this we ask for a 150€
euro (approx £100GBP) deposit on your arrival that we will hold for the duration of your stay. Any damages will be taken from this deposit and the remainder returned to you when you depart. (Please note that any damages in excess of the 150€ euro deposit will be invoiced to your home address.)

Is the Gite available for stays of less than 3 days?
For a short stay we would recommend you stay with us in the main house as a Bed & Breakfast guest. The turn around of the gite between guests is time consuming and not commercially viable for a stay of less than 3 days, however you may contact us to discuss alternative pricing.
